Ahead of Image Sensors Europe 2017, we spoke with Atsushi Kobayashi, Senior Image Sensor Specialist from Huawei on the future trends for smartphones.
1. Why is it so important to tell the industry the end-user requirements and what can this help to achieve?
Players in smartphone market are competing strongly, especially camera performance and its features. Most of key players like Huawei are eager to find out new camera feature and new key technology which improves camera performance. One of my goals is that members in image sensor society pay more attention to mobile market and propose new ideas to us.
2. Can you give us a brief insight into the latest trends that you’ll be looking to present?
Dual camera functions alongside picture quality versus specs and selfie.
3. Where do you foresee the image sensor market for smart phones is headed in the next 5 years and why?
That’s a great question. One of our goals is to look at improvements of pixel performance, in particular improving our cameras quality to imitate as close as possible to D-SLR.
Another area we are very excited about is ‘depth sensing’, especially due to the current demand for AR/VR applications. We anticipate in the next few years 3D cameras will become standard on all smart phones.
4. What can the attendees look to gain by hearing your presentation at the conference?
The smartphone industry is highly competitive and within my presentation I will offer key insights on what smartphone vendors are focusing on, how improvements of pixel performance is still important, especially as
Huawei is very open to new ideas which improves camera especially image sensor.
